COLLEGE ORGANIZATIONS

CA

AQUA | San Francisco State University
Asians & Queers United for Awareness (AQUA) aims to create a supportive environment for Queer Asians (Asian and Pacific Islander Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender, Intersex, Queer, Questioning, Downe and any other Sexually Flexible folks) to be who they are, empower and vitalize the Queer Asian community by cultivating close and strong connections among the members of this community and raise awareness about Queer Asians in the Asian community and the Queer community.

Queer & Asian | Stanford University
Asians and Pacific Islanders at Stanford have often lacked visibility within the LGBTQ community, and conversely, LGBTQ members and issues have often been invisible within the API community. With this queer Asian group, we hope to promote racial and ethnic diversity within the larger gay community as well as combat homophobia among Asian-Americans. Q&A is building a queer, Asian safe-space via bi-monthly meetings (at the Lesbian, Bisexual, and Gay Community Center and the Asian American Activities Center), trips to the city, movie outings, and quarterly dinners.

Cal Queer & Asian | UC Berkeley
Cal Q&A was founded a decade ago on the UC Berkeley campus as a student organization dedicated to the intersectionality of the queer and Asian identities. Through weekly meetings and monthly events, Cal Q&A acts as a safe space, social group, and support network for any and every student on the UC Berkeley campus. It is the largest club on campus that deals with the intersection of race and sexuality, and Cal Q&A works with many community organizations to strengthen both the Queer and Asian communities. Cal Q&A is also the host of the annual Queer & Asian Conference. calqanda@gmail.com

Asian Pacific Islander Queers (APIQ) | @ UC Davis
APIQ is a support group for individuals who identify as both API (Asian Pacific Islander) and LGBTQQI. We hold discussion meetings to talk about unique and pertinent issues that APIQs face. We also hold socials, open sessions, workshops, awareness weeks, and other events to enrich and educate the UC Davis campus and community. Ultimately, APIQ's ongoing goal is to provide a supportive family for API Queers and to foster a more accepting environment by increasing public awareness.

CONFERENCES

UC Berkeley 2nd Annual Queer & Asian Conference | May 2, 2009
Berkeley, CA | This year’s conference, “ARTICULATION: Animating Our Collective Autobiography,” marks the second year of the annual Queer and Asian Conference, and it remains a conference that continues many of the same themes that inspired the birth of the Queer and Asian Conference last year. This time, however, beyond the articulation of individual stories also emerges the question of how our stories can mix, relate, and unite. Through similarities and shared experiences, can we weave our stories together to become something greater? While some of us will have much to say, and others less, we all will have the ability and opportunity to shape the foundation for an anthology that cannot be silenced.

QAPI 2009 National Conference | August 14 - 16, 2009
Seattle, WA | The QAPI National Conference seeks to network, organize, agitate, educate, and build the capacity of the nation's LGBTQ API communities. Queer People of Color Conference (QPOCC)
2010 Location TBA | Each year the Queer People of Color Conference is hosted by different organizations with the theme of the conference changing as well. The 1st Annual QPOC Conference focused on "Exposing Our Institutionalizations and Challenging Tokenisms". The 2nd Annual QPOC Conference's theme was, "At the Crossroads of Age, Race, and Sexuality". Lastly, the 3rd Annual QPOC Conference's theme was " (re)Generations of Solidarity: Shifting Lenses and Igniting Hearts." The 4th theme was, "Building Communities Through Art, Action, and Resistance."

This year's theme "Bring It Back" has a double meaning: to bring it back to 1999 to see how far we as a queer Pin@y community have progressed, and to bring back our knowledge and consciousness to our respective spaces and communities.
