wiqaablog: Heyyy Beautiful People!

Kalaya'an

Hey Folks!

Kalaya'an here, and I'm one of the new bloggers of Wiqaable.com Just wanted to give you a sneak peak at the type of content I'll be covering as well as a little background info on me.

Alrighty...here is the sexy jedi stuff: my organizing/activist work is anchored in nonviolent direct action, grassroots organizing and social media strategy. I was the former Grassroots Coordinator of Students for a Free Tibet International (SFT) during the two years leading up to the 2008 Beijing Olympics Campaign. As the GC I coordinated grassroots actions, leadership conferences, action camps and wide scale mobilizations with our global network of chapters. One of my favorite duties was creating content for the SFT vlog, SFTtv.

Before serving as the GC of SFT, I was a student organizer at UC Santa Barbara where I had the honor to work alongside some of the most hardcore, badass, ninjastar activists..EVER. We worked on issues ranging from anti-oppression organizing to Queer empowerment to Indigenous solidarity. And before that, I was a Unicorn Dancer. But i'd rather not talk about that. Its classified.

Now for the Sexy 2.0 stuff.

"Decolonize Your Mind"
-Colonization is the root of so much evil in this world, both internal and external. As a Queer Person of Color in this country, my own decolonization process has helped me to love my golden brown skinned self rather than bleaching it away to mimic the colonizer's complexion. Decolonization isn't just skin deep. Its a painful, laborious, but thankfully liberating process. This series of b/vlogs will touch on themes that I explore during "Decolonization Workshops" that I facilitate at high schools and universities.

"WTF. That's Problematic"
-Have you ever been told that your features are "exotic"? Or how one of your friends just looooooves dressing like an "ethnic" during Halloween? Well this is going to be the b/vlog where we explore all those lovely, well intentioned and absolutely fucked up statements people make, why they're problematic and what might be an appropriate response. I HIGHLY encourage folks to leave some of your FAVE problematic statements in the comments section of this b/vlog post.

"Brain Candy"
-Sometimes we just need something to make our brain feel good. These posts will include clips from the TED Conference, practical lifehacks and other yummy things to nourish your noggin.

Well, I hope that kinda gives you a peep show at the kind of content I'll be spitting out. I promise that future posts will either piss you off, put you into a state of transcendant bliss, or just make you LOL inapproriately. I will TTYL, K.I.T. and all those other rubberstamped yearbook acronyms with you beautiful people later.

Peace and Lumpia Grease!
