안녕하세요? 하루키이에요! I've been in Pusan, ROK (South Korea) since Monday, and I'm leaving the city tomorrow to spend two coming nights in Taegu and Seoul consecutively before getting back to Japan. I took a ship from Hakata, Japan to Pusan instead of flying; it took almost three hours (plus four hours from my hometown to Hakata). The main purpose of this trip is to Visit Taegu, where my grandfather was from, although I'll be stay there for only one night.
Here I am, drunk travel blogging from a hotel room with Hite beer. I don't have any friends or relatives working for Hite, and I've become a fan of this beer just because they feature Big Bang (particularly Tae Yang) on their commercials. Oh, I like the taste, too. For realz.
This beer is actually quite popular in ROK with its market share being more than 50% (according to Wikipedia). So what's Queer about it? Well, Big Bang is everything about Queer and Asian. Not that any of the members openly identifies as Queer (I'm hoping Tae Yang does), but their popularity among Queer API folks deserves to be featured on this blog. I don't assume all the wiqaable followers to be familiar with them, so here's wikipedia for you. And if you're a big fan of Big Bang, I recommend you check Hite's website as well.
I hear many of my Queer API friends fantasize about Big Bang (particularly Tae Yang). I mean, so do I. If my wish would come true, I'd love to invite him to a three-some with my partner for seven nights and days in a row.
Additionally, the significance of emerging Korean or Asian pop stars in general like Tae Yang for Queer API folks is that we no longer have to depend on the mainstream US media for the source of our fantasies. From my own point of view, I don't see why API folks in Americas wouldn't like Asian singers, musicians and artists. If someone is to say they're not as good, I guess she/he doesn't know the music scene in Asia very well. Or, he/she has internalized White supremacy. US pop music is quite shallow, misogynistic, homophobic, violent and degrading of so many people; yet they prevail because of the money they have for targeting youths, who are more likely to spend money than any other generations. I'm not saying that Asian pop music isn't shallow; you get the point.
Asian musicians don't need White people's validation because they are nothing more or less than American and European musicians. It's a matter of preference; I've listened to Third Eye Blind as many times as I have listened to Cocco. Whether they are to gain popularity in the US or not, good music is good, and hot people are hot, that's all.
So Tae Yang, if you're ever reading this, please contact us; I'd love to interview you for wiqaable.com about your popularity among Queers, as well as about your sexuality, in my bedroom.

I love this a lot.
Also, I'd like music from Asia more if I didn't need subtitles to understand it. On the flipside, I'm noticing now that English is more or less overgrown and rampant all around the world.
hey haruki!
HITE is also the only major beer in ROK that is still owned by a Korean company. it's competitor OB Beer(aptly named oriental brewery, tho i must say that i have a fondness for it myself) is now owned by Budweiser!
:D
